Like the story from a classic Hollywood film, Campus MovieFest (CMF) came from a humble beginning. Seven years ago, a band of friends attending Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, thought it would be fun to give computers, camcorders and training to students to make their own movies and then share the five minute films the teams created. The four Emory students had no idea the project would change the course of their lives and the lives of countless students across the globe as the program grew to become the world’s largest student film festival.
AT&T and Gibson Guitar are now teaming up for the 45-college contest. According to Digital Music News, the companies are bringing the Music component of CMF into campuses nationwide and coordinating contests among aspiring bands. Finalists will be chosen for face-offs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Orlando, Atlanta, New York, Boston, and Washington, DC.
Also involved is OurStage, itself an online battle-of-the-bands; and Blue Maze Entertainment, which is producing the event. The action on both the MusicFest and MovieFest culminates in June of 2009 in Los Angeles. The Campus MusicFest will officially be announced over the next few days, but college groups can submit profiles and enter the contest now at www.campusmusicfest.com.
I can remember when this festival was first getting off the ground. I can't believe it's turned into such a big deal!
